More Than Teaching — living our values together

Debate as part of a Bible class
PCS plays an active role across campus life. Our team leads engaging Bible Knowledge classes that go beyond textbooks, inviting students into discussion, reflection, and creative projects. Weekly Chapel services bring faith to life through storytelling, music, student –presentations, and guest speakers who connect with real-world challenges and questions.

Beyond the classroom, students experience faith through action. Outdoor learning journeys turn lessons into lived experiences, whether walking in nature, serving in the community, or working alongside others. Projects and reflection help students experience how values like kindness, respect, and responsibility make a difference in everyday life.
School Counselling Services — a holistic approach

As part of our holistic approach to care, school counselling services in SYAS provide an essential pillar of support for our students. School counselling is a collaborative and structured process that focuses on supporting the academic, social, emotional, and career development of students. These services may include individual and group counselling, classroom guidance lessons, academic support, career exploration, and crisis intervention to name some.
Our school counsellors work closely with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create a positive and supportive school environment that promotes student well-being and academic achievement. Where needed, referrals to external agencies — such as Family Service Centres (FSCs) or specialised mental health services — are available with parental consent, ensuring our students receive the targeted support they need.
Building Connections and Community
We believe real transformation happens in community. PCS works closely with local church youth ministries, so all students have access to a community to belong beyond school walls. Within SYAS, we foster a culture where students feel safe to ask questions, share doubts, and discover faith at their own pace.
At SYAS, we believe our staff are not just employees — they are an integral part of our school family. The Pastoral Care Services team is committed to supporting and uplifting them, recognising that teachers and staff also need encouragement and rest. We aim to remind every member of our team that they are valued, cared for, and never alone. By nurturing our staff as family, we create a culture of warmth and support that naturally flows to every student in our care.
Creating a Culture of Care

PCS helps shape the larger SYAS community by encouraging student-led initiatives, peer mentoring, and service projects. Through cultural celebrations, awareness campaigns, and even simple acts like recognising kindness and creativity, we work to build a school where everyone feels seen and included.
At the heart of it all, PCS is here to live out what we teach: compassion, integrity, perseverance, and trust in God. It’s not about rules or rituals; it’s about helping students discover how these values can guide their own stories — today and for the future.
Pastoral Care Services at SYAS is more than a department; it’s a living expression of our commitment to care for every student, every staff, every day.
