School Updates

School Updates
Greetings. We thank God that most of our students are settling into a good routine of coming to school punctually and attending lessons regularly. Please refer to the following for major upcoming updates:
1. Home-based Learning (HBL) on 28 and 29 January:
- Primary 2 to Secondary 4 students will be engaged in HBL by following their class timetables and complete online and offline assignments. For more details, refer to the letter that was dated 21 January.
2. Orientation Day Camps for New Students on 28 and 29 January:
- Primary 1 orientation day camp will be held in SYAS.
- Primary 5 to Secondary 3 orientation day camp for new students will be held on and off campus.
3. Travel Declaration and Survey via ASKnLearn:
- All students to declare that they will NOT be travelling out of Singapore during the Chinese New Year period due to the current Covid-19 situation.
- Primary school parents/ guardians are invited to complete a survey on after-school student care services.
We hope that students’ educational journey in SYAS will be enriched as they participate actively in the planned activities. God bless.

Home-based Learning (HBL) During Two-Day Orientation Camp

Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to inform you that all students from Primary 2 to Secondary 4, who are not involved in the Two- Day Orientation Camp, do not need to attend school on Thursday, 28 January and Friday, 29 January 2021, as the school would be conducting HBL. The HBL timetable will be put up in the AsknLearn learning portal and tasks will be assigned by all subject teachers whose lessons are scheduled in the school timetable for the class of your child/ward, from 8.20 am to the last period, for the two days. All students are required to complete all the HBL assignments during the scheduled HBL days. Only new students from P5, PS1F, S1, S2 and S3, who are attending the camp on the 2 days are allowed to complete their assignments latest by 5.00 pm on Sunday, 31 January 2021.

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,
2021 First Day of School Information
Greetings from all of us here at San Yu Adventist School (SYAS). We hope that our students are looking forward to a brand new academic year where they can learn and grow together with teachers and friends.
- To keep our students safe, we would be implementing a staggered schedule for students to return to SYAS as follows:
- Monday, 4 January 2021 – school commences for Primary 1, plus PS1F to Secondary 4 students. Students will attend school from 7.57am to 1pm. Students will follow normal timetable (which will be issued on 4 January) from Tuesday, 5 January onwards.
- Tuesday, 5 January 2021 – school commences for Primary 2 to 6 students. Students will attend school from 7.57am to 1pm. Students will follow normal timetable (which will be issued on 5 January) from Wednesday, 6 January onwards.
- Things to take note on the first day of school (4 and 5 January respectively):
- One adult would be able to accompany a young student to school. After confirming the student’s identity and class, the accompanying adult will leave the school premises.
- The school bookshop will be opened from 1pm to serve parents/guardians who need to purchase school materials on the first day of school.
- Students are to bring their Trace Together tokens (if any) and/or a copy of their Student’s Pass/ Dependent’s Pass for SafeEntry purposes.
- Students who are currently staying with a person serving a Quarantine Order (QO), Leave of Absence (LOA) or Stay-Home-Notice (SHN) should not be in school. Please inform SYAS via email immediately.
With a staggered returning, student movements in school can be better guided and directed by staff to ensure social distancing and other safe management procedures. We seek your understanding and cooperation during the initial days of dismissals where delays may be expected as we remind students to keep their social distance from one another.

Student’s Travel In and Out of Singapore

Dear Parents/ Guardians/ Students,
Student’s Travel In and Out of Singapore
2020 is coming to an end and we understand that our students may have plans to go back to their home countries for the year-end holidays. We strongly discourage students to travel out of Singapore at the end of the year due to the volatile COVID-19 situation as they may have difficulty re-entering Singapore, which may cause a delay in starting school in 2021.
All students must declare their travel plans by 12 October 2020 via the ASKnLearn portal. If there are any changes to the travel plans after the travel declaration has been submitted, please email [email protected] to inform the school.
In the event that the student has to return back to his or her home country, please ensure that the steps mentioned in page 2 of this letter are completed to ensure a smooth return to Singapore.

Important Note:
1. SYAS is only able to help the student apply for an entry approval if the student holds a valid SYAS student pass or a STP-IPA letter. Secondary 4 students will have to return in Dec before their STP expires.
2. As the COVID-19 situation is continuously evolving, if a student chooses to travel, he or she will have to bear the risks of delays and disruptions if any.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for attending the Parent-Teacher Conference via Zoom on Friday, 17 July. We hope that
our teachers were able to address all your concerns. If there is a need to discuss any area of
concerns with our staff, please make an appointment and we will gladly attend to your child/ward’s needs.
Moreover, we would like to welcome all students back to school in the second half of Term 3. We hope that our students have had a well-rested one-week break and are ready to continue with their studies. We would also like to share some of the highlights scheduled for the rest of the academic year:

CPE 21st Advisory: Updated requirements for travellers with recent travel history to Japan, Hong Kong and the state of Victoria, Australia

Please take note of the extract from Committee of Private education (CPE) to private educational institutes (PEIs) and student pass holders (STPs):
CPE 21st Advisory: Updated requirements for travellers with recent travel history to Japan, Hong Kong and the state of Victoria, Australia
Changes to requirements for affected travellers
1. Travellers entering Singapore after 19 July 2020, 2359 hours, who had spent their last 14 days in Victoria (Australia), Japan and Hong Kong, will be required to serve their Stay-Home Notice (SHN) at dedicated SHN facilities instead of their previously approved SHN accommodation. They will also need to undergo a COVID-19 test before they end their SHN as is the current requirement.
2. All travellers who left Singapore from 27 March 2020 despite the prevailing travel advisory, and travellers who are not Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (regardless of their date of departure) are required to pay for their stay at dedicated SHN facilities. This will also apply to Student’s Pass Holders (STPs).
Changes for PEI STPs
3. Entry Approval Applications from existing STPs who have travelled to affected countries/regions will not be considered: With effect from 19 July 2020, 2359 hours, entry approval applications from existing STPs from Private Education Institutions (PEIs) who had spent their last 14 days in Victoria (Australia), Japan and Hong Kong, will not be considered until further notice.
4. Previously-approved applications for STPs who have travelled to affected countries/regions: STPs who spent their last 14 days in Victoria (Australia), Japan and Hong Kong, and who had been previously approved by MOE to enter Singapore, will now need to pay S$1,500 (inclusive of GST) for their stay at dedicated SHN facilities with effect from 19 July 2020, 2359 hours, even if they were previously approved to stay at alternative lodging.
5. CPE will convey the revised PayPal links for affected STPs to PEIs by 21 July 2020, and PEIs are to ensure affected STPs have made the required payment for the dedicated SHN facility by 24 July 2020, 2359 hours. Please note that:
a. STPs who have planned flights to Singapore from 25 July 2020 will have their entry approvals rescinded and payments refunded (where applicable), if payment is not received by 24 July 2020, 2359 hours; and
b. STPs who have planned flights to Singapore before 24 July 2020, 2359 hours may continue to enter Singapore before making payment during this period on an exceptional basis. However, CPE seeks the cooperation of PEIs to ensure that STPs make the payment by 24 July 2020, 2359 hours.
Upon arrival, STP holders will serve their SHN at dedicated facilities, with dedicated transport provided to them.

End of 1st Half of Term 3

End of 1st Half of Term 3
1. Thank you for cooperating with the school so that teaching and learning can take place in what is termed as the “new normal”. Everyone has put in effort to ensure that students can study in a safe school environment.
2. On behalf of the Parent-Teacher Conference committee, we would like to inform you that students do not need to attend school on 17 July as most, if not all, teachers will be involved in communicating with parents/guardians via Zoom.
3. We wish that all students will be able to take a good break and engage themselves in meaningful activities during the first term break between 18 and 26 July. We’ll welcome all students back to school on Monday, 27 July.

Safe Management Measures - Safe/Social Distancing and Social Responsibility
1. We are thankful to have our full cohort of students coming back to school for learning. We pray that our students will adjust to the normal school hours and keep up a good pace to engage in purposeful and meaningful learning.
2. It was brought to our attention that some parents/guardians have been gathering outside the school gate while waiting for their children/wards. We seek your fullest cooperation to observe a one metre safe/social distance among you and would like to make an appeal for you to quickly drop off/pick up your child/ward and leave the premises. Please refrain from small talk at this juncture. Together, we can protect the young ones and one another.
3. Last but not least, we would like to remind students living with any member of the household serving Home Quarantine Order/ Stay Home Notice, or with flu-like symptoms to stay away from school.

Full Reopening of SYAS from 29 June 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Full Reopening of SYAS from 29 June 2020
1. Greetings. We are looking forward to welcome students from all levels back to campus daily from Monday, 29 June 2020. All students are to report to school before 8am. We strongly encourage students to arrive in SYAS before 7.30am daily so as to prevent crowding due to the implementation of safe management measures.
2. As a school, we will continue to implement the following measures to protect staff and students:
- Daily temperature-taking and visual screening for all students and staff. Students and staff who are unwell, or who have household members on Home Quarantine Order/Stay Home Notice or have adult household members with flu-like symptoms such as fever and cough, are required to stay away from school. Should students be required to be swab tested, they should return home immediately after the swab test and not leave their place of residence while waiting for the results of their tests.
- Frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces and disinfection of the premises to be done daily.
- Students will continue to practise frequent hand-washing.
- Intermingling across classes and levels will be reduced/ avoided.
- Safe distancing to be adhered.
- Students and staff are required to wear masks. In situations where wearing of masks may not be practical, they may wear face shields instead.
3. Together, we will exercise personal and social responsibility to create a safe environment in SYAS for teaching and learning to take place.
