Important Updates from SYAS in View of the Current COVID-19 Virus Situation

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

 1.    Appreciation

Once again, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks in your cooperation to make San Yu Adventist School (SYAS) as safe as possible in the current COVID-19 virus outbreak situation.  Many, if not all of you, exercised social responsibility by keeping your child/ward at home when he/she showed flu-like symptoms.  Thank you for also reminding your child/ward to be responsible in masking wearing and to wash his/her hands frequently in order to maintain a high standard of hygiene.  We strongly encourage all our students to take their temperature daily and monitor their health.

SYAS will continue to adhere to the Singapore Government’s regulations and guidelines so as to continue to provide a conducive learning environment for all students.  We seek your continued understanding to bear with any inconvenience for the benefit of the community.

2.    Home-based Learning (HBL) in Week 10 (24, 25 and 27 May)

  • All students will be placed on HBL in Term 2 Week 10 – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday only.
  • Lesson plan for the week can be viewed on Monday, 24 May, from 7.30am onwards via the ASKnLearn portal:    https://lms.asknlearn.com/SYAS/login.aspx
  • Form teachers will mark attendance at 8am via Zoom and carry out contact time till 8.20am, thereafter, students will follow their normal timetable.

3.    Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) on 28 May

  • PTC will be carried out via Zoom.  Parents and guardians may check their bookings and converse with form and subject teachers according to their appointments.

4.    Term 2 Progress Report

  • Term 2 progress reports will be emailed to parents/ guardians on Thursday, 27 May, by 4pm.  Please take note that the marks are subjected to minor amendments as students will only check their exam scripts when they return to school in Term 3.  We strongly encourage students to work on their weaker subjects during the June holidays.
  • All students will receive their official progress reports in hard copy in Term 3 Week 1, Friday, 2 July.

5. Travel Plans during the June Holidays

  • All students are to declare/ update their travel plans in a transparent and truthful manner via this link by Friday, 21 May, 4pm:  https://lms.asknlearn.com/SYAS/login.aspx
  • We have been informed of the following for your attention and necessary follow-up:
  1. In view of the worsening situation globally, Singapore will further tighten our border measures for travellers with recent travel history to higher risk countries/regions*, and reduce entry approvals for non-Singapore Citizens/ Permanent Residents with immediate effect.
  2. Students must obtain an entry approval via the SafeTravel application portal (https://eservices.ica.gov.sg/STO) before travelling to Singapore. If they are unable to find an entry date in the SafeTravel portal, they should defer their travel plans until the situation has stabilised.
  1. Border/health control measures may change at short notice, depending on the COVID-19 situation abroad and the assessed risk of importation from arriving travellers. Travellers with prior entry approval may have their approvals rescinded according to the prevailing COVID-19 situation. If this occurs, affected travellers will be contacted and refunded the fees paid.  They may consider re-applying for entry into Singapore on a different date, or deferring their travel plans until the situation has stabilised.

6.  Primary 6 and Secondary 4 Matters

  • The government allows graduating class students to be in SYAS for remedial/supplementary classes during the June holiday.  Thus, SYAS teachers will conduct supplementary lessons for our primary 6 and secondary 4 students during the first week of the June holidays.  Details will be released soon.
  • The O Level Chinese examination will be held in SYAS according to SEAB’s schedule on Monday, 31 May 2021.

    7.  SYAS Website

Please refer to the school website for latest updates regularly, especially during the June school holidays where the teaching staff may not be available.

8.  Contact Information

Parents or guardians with concerns can contact the respective form teachers or email the school at
[email protected].  SYAS office will remain open during the HBL and June holidays.

Thank you, once again, for your vigilance, care and concern shown towards your child/ward and SYAS.  May God’s healing and protection be with us always.  Stay safe.

Best Regards,

SYAS Administration

27 April 2021

Dear Parents/ Guardians/ Students,

Drop-off/ Pick-up of Students (Update)

We have received information from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and its licensed contractor on road alterations made in front of San Yu Adventist School (SYAS). As a result, two drop-off/ pick-up points are created for our students. We seek your understanding and full cooperation to adhere to the following to smoothen the traffic flow for all road users:

  • Please refer to the illustrations attached and follow the arrows indicating the direction of car movements while dropping off/ picking up SYAS students.
  • Three-point turns/ reversing of car to make U-turns/ reversing of car into SYAS are NOT allowed in order to prevent traffic jams. Traffic marshals may be present to provide guidance.
  • Cars are not allowed to be parked at the drop-off/ pick-up points at any given time. As mentioned in the previous letter, parents/ guardians do not need to come too early to wait for their children/wards

Let us all play an active role in ensuring the safety of SYAS students and a smooth experience for all drivers. Thank you in advance for your patience in bearing with inconveniences caused.

Yours sincerely,

In preparation for Term 2

18 March 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,

1.      I hope that our students are enjoying their March holidays.  Thank you for working with us to ensure the success of the completion of Term 1.  SYAS students have shown resilience in this “new normal” situation.  Besides classroom learning, students participated actively in many engaging activities such as the orientation day camps, Chinese gospel day camp, indoor and outdoor co-curricular activities and learning journeys.  We look forward to welcoming all students back on campus on Monday, 22 March, after a well-deserved break.

2.      We would like to stress that safe crossing of the road between Novena Church and SYAS must be strictly adhered to.  Please do not rush to cross when the traffic light is about to turn red.  Pedestrians are not supposed to wait in the middle of the road.  It is always better to be safe and a little late than to be involved in an accident.  We urge parents and guardians to remind students on a daily basis to be alert and adopt the safety measures the road signs/signals provided.

3.      On another note, we would like to reiterate that as the government slowly moves towards the use of TraceTogether app or token for access to facilities, the use of TraceTogether will eventually be enforced for entry into SYAS.  Therefore, the school would like to request that students who prefer not to use or do not have access to the TraceTogether app to collect a token before the commencement of the compulsory usage of TraceTogether.  All students are strongly encouraged to collect the TraceTogether tokens during the March holiday break.

For more information about TraceTogether and the collection of the token, please refer to the following government websites.

Updated Student Handbook and collection of TraceTogether Token

2 February 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,

1.      We have uploaded an updated version of the Student Handbook and it can be viewed and downloaded from our website.  Some of the main changes included internal staff movement – our registrar, Mr Thomas Ang, has taken up the position of Business Manager and Ms Grace Ng is the new registrar of the school.

2.      As the government slowly moves towards the use of TraceTogether app or token for access to facilities, the use of TraceTogether will eventually be enforced for entry into SYAS.  Therefore, the school would like to request that students who prefer not to use or do not have access to the TraceTogether app to collect a token before the commencement of the compulsory usage of TraceTogether.  From 1 February, the public can collect their TraceTogether tokens from any of the 108 community centres and clubs (CCs) in Singapore.

For more information about TraceTogether and the collection of the token, please refer to the following government websites.
